After my proposal (read here), I did not want to remove my engagement ring for anything aside from showering. Realistically, would you want to take off a beautiful ring from the love of your life? However, I knew that wearing it during exercise was impractical and potentially dangerous.

As much as I love my fiancé, I am not stopping my trips to the gym! After some thought and research, I determined that I had three options. Continue reading for my solutions to wearing your engagement or wedding ring to the gym.

3 options for working out with my engagement ring

1. Leave my ring on.

The pressure from weights and even inverted poses in yoga and Pilates can damage the band. Also, the ring could potentially cut into my hand.

2. Wear a protective cover.

During my research, I came across this product called Buffr and thought it could be a fair compromise between wanting to wear my ring and providing protection. Essentially, it is a silicone cover that slides onto the hand. The front of the cover looks similar to a silicone ring and the back is wide enough to cover the band of the ring.

The pro of Buffr is that I can still wear my ring while working out and do not have to worry about it sitting in my gym bag. However, there are a few potential cons. One con is that the top of my ring could still become damaged since it was exposed. The cover might also affect my grip with weights. Since I am currently working from home, I did not see the need for this product since I can easily leave my ring at home while I am at the gym. I still might purchase this in the future to try it out anyway.

3.Remove my ring and replace with a silicone ring.

Although I knew about silicone rings, I forgot about them and did not initially consider them. At first, I decided to not wear my ring to the gym to eliminate the issues of damaging my ring and becoming injured from it. However, I lose the opportunity to honor my engagement.

A few weeks after my engagement, my friend invited me and fiancé to her house for a small (outdoor, masked, and socially distant) get-together. She mentioned that she started wearing silicone rings in place of her wedding ring to protect it.

Then I realized that I had my solution… silicone rings!

After a quick Google search of “silicone rings,” the two most popular brands were Enso and Qalo. I decided to order one ring from each, which were comparable in design and price. Ideally, I would have preferred to order from their respective websites but Amazon was more convenient. I will do a comparison of the rings in a future post.

At the moment, there are no cons of wearing the silicone rings. I think they are comfortable (even while deadlifting) and stylish. In the future, however, I am concerned about switching out my rings when I start traveling to the gym directly from work since my engagement ring would be left in the locker room.

If you wear an engagement or wedding ring, what do you do with your ring when you work out?
