I’m engaged! My proposal story

Before our engagement, Chris and I have been dating for over five years. On August 9, 2020, Chris took me out for dinner at a seafood restaurant overlooking the Bayshore Marina in Long Island. I was excited considering this was going to be our first time dining in since the pandemic. Chris suggested that I “dress up” for the occasion, which I found strange since Chris normally prefers casual attire. Despite my suspicion that something was weird, I enthusiastically put on my new jumpsuit and we went out to dinner.

After dinner, we walked around the pier for a while to enjoy the view of the ocean. Despite the view, I was getting cold since the sun went down and was ready to go home. I sat in the car while Chris went to use the restroom. When he got back, he asked me to come out of the car for a second. In a loving way, Chris gently grabbed my hands and told me that he loved me and was glad that we were together. Next, he got down on one knee and concluded his statement with “I hope we will be together for a long time.” At this point, I was so mesmerized by the ring presented in front of me I didn’t respond. After fully comprehending the situation, I said “Yes!” Since Chris wanted this to be a private moment, our proposal was not photographed or filmed. Although we do not have media of the proposal, we will remember this moment for the rest of our lives.

Currently, we do not have anything planned as of yet. Due to the limited number of spaces for 2021, we will most likely have our wedding the following year in 2022. However, we recently celebrated the occasion in my parents backyard with our closest family and friends. Chris and I are excited for this new chapter in our lives!

If you are engaged or married, how did your significant other propose? How long were you engaged before you got married?
