My current home gym setup

Before the gyms shut down, I worked out at home occasionally after long work days or grad assignments due. After the outbreak of COVID-19, gyms were forced to close their doors until further notice, forcing gym-goers like myself to workout at home. Fortunately, I have slowly invested in workout equipment throughout the years due to long commutes early in my teaching career, grad school workload. My overzealous boyfriend insisted on getting a barbell and weights. At first, I thought it was excessive but obviously now I am grateful that he bought that equipment.

Our home gym is in an extra bedroom that also functions as an office space. Leaving the middle open allows me to do cardio and yoga. To protect the floor from the weights, we also bought this floor mat.

Gym equipment

Here is some of the equipment in our gym:

  • Stationary bike
  • barbell and weight plates
  • resistance bands (looped and Pilates bands)
  • dumbbells
  • doorway pull-up bar (not shown in picture)
  • yoga mats
  • yoga blocks
  • Pilates ring

Gym organization

To keep things organized and off of the floor, we purchased:

  • this rack for the weight plates (make sure you buy the right size, I didn’t but it still works)
  • a storage cart for the dumbbells, resistance bands and other things (inspired by this pin)
  • a crate (similar) for yoga mats
