I know what you're thinking.
You're dreaming about putting in your two week's notice and buying a one-way plane ticket to the Caribbean to escape from the piles of paperwork on your desk.
You wish you could eat your turkey sandwich without working on another last minute assignment from your boss in between bites.
You would like to go out for a date night with you significant other instead of crashing on your couch on a Friday night.
However, it seems like a far-fetched reality, right?
You're probably wondering "That sounds great, but how?"
One year ago, I could barely get dressed in the morning.
After seven years of teaching, my burnout had reached an all-time high. During the initial shutdown of the pandemic, I had to transition from in-person teaching to online instruction in a matter of days.
I was overwhelmed. To deal with the problem, I did what every website told me to do:
"take a break, practice self-care and set boundaries."
It worked for a few months.
Then, the pandemic continued to rage on and I had to continue teaching online. The burnout progressively became worse as I continued working from home.
I lost my motivation to teach.
I isolated myself from my friends and family since I was so exhausted.
I could not get myself to the gym although I have been a bodybuilder for years.
I did not have the energy to complete my graduate portfolio, delaying my graduation date.
The turning point for me was when I needed to lie down on the floor of my office whenever possible because I didn't have the energy to sit in my chair for more than 20 minutes.
At that point, my life was completely focused on work and nothing else. I didn't feel like myself and needed to do something fast otherwise my burnout was going to consume me.
I realized that taking a break and practicing self-care was not enough to stop my burnout. Although these actions can help you feel better, it is only a temporary fix for a larger problem.
Burnout is a result of several things, including an overbearing workload, unclear workplace expectations and lack of work-life balance.
Simply, taking a break and practicing self-care is not enough.
Similar to a disease, you have to identify the cause, treat the symptoms and prevent it from happening again.
Instead, you have to follow the "Reclaim" method, or...
When I implemented the "Reclaim" method into my life, I eliminated my burnout a little under six months.
I got dressed in the morning with ease and regained my motivation to teach.
I graduated with my masters degree.
I trained and competed in a regional bodybuilding competition and placed in the top five.
Instead of keeping it to myself, I wanted to share my methodology with others suffering from the debilitating effects of burnout.
The basis of my "Banish the Burnout" guide was derived from several scientifically-proven behavior change and coaching theories.
Unlike other cookie cutter guides, this guide contains 3 three sections designed in a way that is easily customizable for your goals and lifestyle.
To open the guide, we take some time to gain a deeper understanding of how you became burnt out and address the thoughts and beliefs that you need to release in order to have a successful transformation process.
In the second section, we define burnout and learn about the sources and symptoms of this condition. Afterwards, we look at strategies to get your burnout under control before we get deeper into the process.
This is where the "Reclaim" method comes in. We discover your "why," analyze your current work-life and brainstorm strategies to overcome potential obstacles that may interfere with your change process.
In the final section fo the guide, you complete the final step of the "Reclaim" method. Commit to your goal by completing a 21-day challenge to kickstart the process. After reaching your goal, you will reflect on the experience and strategize ways to maintain the work you have done.
Hi, I'm Sapphire, an ACE certified health coach and experienced music educator based in Long Island, NY.
Prior to the pandemic, I rarely had issues balancing work and wellness. In fact, my ability to balance my life so well became the inspiration for my blog, Strength & Strings.
However, the demands of working from home while dealing with the socioemotional effects of isolation took over my life.
I had to sit down and dig deep inside to figure out how I was going to overcome this feeling before everything fell apart.
Through that experience, "Banish the Burnout" and my "Reclaim" method was born.
My quality of life has improved drastically since I took control of my burnout and I want the same for you.
